  • Of the “Luke is Rey’s father” theories, it’s certainly one of the better ones. My problem is that I simply don’t buy the Luke-father theory at all. First, it’s far too obvious.

Second, JJ borrowed and reimagined heavily from the Expanded Universe for this first movie. A remnant of the empire. A star killer instead of a planet killer. Ok, Han dies instead of Chewie, but close enough. Kylo Ren is almost a carbon copy Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus. Rey’s natural talents in the Force and in flying – as well as an almost instinctual familiarity with the Falcon – speaks far more strongly of Jaina Solo than being Luke’s child. Leia’s reaction to seeing Rey makes even more sense in this case. Mind wipes may not have been in the originals or prequels, but they are certainly EU abilities. It could have well been Luke’s last act before going into exile. Or, as this theory posits, it could have been Kylo. In fact this gives it even more sense.

Considering the way JJ likes to “borrow” from previous work, I can’t imagine him passing on the drama of this kind of brother-sister conflict. As much as I’d like to see Mara Jade, I don’t think it’s in the cards – and I don’t believe even JJ would dare risk the fan wrath of letting anyone else be Luke’s wife. Even if a different name, there would be no mistake of *who* she is.

    • I love this counter point! I hope that they don’t wait too long to reveal the truth about this. I don’t want to wait until episode 9 for the reveal. I hope they put it to bed in episode 8.
