Street Fighter is the third live-action feature-length film based on the Street Fighter video game series by Capcom. Directed by Kitao Sakurai and written by Sakurai and T. J. Fixman.
BUDGET:
Production budget of 82 million dollars.
The film would need to make around 205 million dollars to head towards profitability.
No Chinese launch at this time.
SETTINGS:
Metrolao City is a dystopian, dark, and violent location where the tournament takes place.
I thought the bleak storyline paired well with the often dark location.
CHARACTERS:
Noah Centineo – Ken Masters
Andrew Koji – Ryu
Callina Liang – Chun-Li
David Dastmalchian – M. Bison
Andrew Schulz – Dan Hibiki
Roman Reigns – Akuma
Cody Rhodes – Guile
Jason Momoa – Blanka
Eric André – Don Sauvage
50 Cent – Balrog
Orville Peck – Vega
Hirooki Goto – E. Honda
Vidyut Jammwal – Dhalsim
Olivier Richters – Zangief
Kyle Mooney – Marvin
HITS:
The moves from the game are implemented perfectly
Ken destroying the car
Most of the casting is excellent
They nailed the look of almost every character
The humor is cranked up to 11
The two hour runtime flies by with solid pacing
This is a Gen X fever dream
MISSES:
They skip important scenes (Guile vs Vega)
The story is ludicrous
There’s no actual tournament
Blanka is either a hit or an absolute miss (no middle ground)
M. Bison is a terrible casting
I think there’s a disconnect with generations not named Gen-X or Millennials
Add in a couple of young characters and feature them in the promotion
Set the movie in modern day
